Secretary Janet Napolitano

Name: Janet Napolitano
Title: Secretary of Homeland Security
Department: Homeland Security

Roles:
Prevent Terrorism
The protection of American people from terrorism is our highest priority because we want to keep Americans safe.

Secure and Manage Borders
It's important for us to prevent illegal activity of travel and trade, which also help keep Americans safe from terrorism.

Enforcing Immigration Laws
We are able to control who comes into the United States and can monitor terrorists or activists that could bring harm to Americans.

Safe Guard and Secure Cyberspace
We analyze and try to stop threats through the Internet and make sure that computers of Americans are safe.

Ensure Resilience to Disasters
We provide help to disasters in America to help with a quick recovery. We give grants and planning to areas in need after a disaster.

"It's called Homeland Security. While the effort will begin here, it will require the involvement of America at every level. Everyone in the homeland must play a part. I ask the American people for their patience, their awareness and their resolve. There are some things we can do immediately, and we will. Others will take more time. But we will find something for every American to do. My friends in the Army Corps of Engineers remind me of their motto -- Secretary Powell's familiar with it -- The difficult, we do immediately. The impossible takes a little longer."
-- Director Ridge, 10/28/01, Office of the Press Secretary

This quote is explaining that even with Homeland Security protecting us with all they can, it is still up to Americans to promote safety and to take an active role in ensuring the safety of our nation.
