Tim Geithner- the Deprtment of Treasury

Hello. My name is Tim Geithner, and I am the secretary of the Department of Treasury.

My department's job deals with the national economy. We...
-Deal with federal spending

-Collect taxes to the nation

-Deal with coining money

-Deal with debts

-Regulate national banks

-Advise you about your finances

-Enforce all tax and finance laws

-Deal with counterfeiters and other economic or financial criminals

-Work to make our national economy strong

-Work to keep you financially stable

Our job is important because regulating the economy keeps it from crashing and spiraling us into a depression. Keeping the economy regulated is essential to our nation's safety.

"Although this crisis in some ways started in the United States, it is a global crisis. We bear a substantial share of the responsibility for what has happened, but factors that made the crisis so acute and so difficult to contain lie in a broader set of global forces that built up in the years before the start of our current troubles."

The Department of Treasury deals with the nation's economy. Since the national economy is intertwined with the economy of other countries, the crises of our economy can be reflected in the economies of other countries.

Here is a video of Tim Geithner speaking.
